Raw Petroleum Coke

Petroleum coke is generally classified in the following four ways

According to the processing method can be divided into raw coke and calcined coke. The former is obtained from the coke tower of the delayed coke unit, also known as the primary coke, which contains more volatiles and has poor strength. The latter is produced by calcination (1300℃), also known as calcined char.

According to the level of sulfur content, it can be divided into high sulfur coke (sulfur mass content is higher than 4%), medium sulfur coke (sulfur content 2% ~ 4%) and low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 2%). The sulfur content of coke mainly depends on the sulfur content of raw oil. With the increase of sulfur content, the quality of coke decreases, and its use also changes.

Petroleum Coke Production Line

According to the shape can be divided into

1.Needle coke: with an obvious needle-like structure and fiber texture, it is mainly used as a high power and ultra-high power graphite electrode in steelmaking. Due to the strict quality requirements of needle coke in sulfur content, ash, volatile and true density, there are special requirements for the production process and raw materials of needle coke.

2.Sponge coke: high chemical reactivity, low impurity content, mainly used in aluminum smelting industry and carbon industry.

3.Pellet coke or ball coke: the shape is spherical, diameter 0.6-30mm, is generally produced by high sulfur, high asphaltic residue, can only be used as power generation, cement and other industrial fuels.

4.Powder coke: produced by fluidized coking process, its fine particles (diameter 0.1-0.4mm), high volatile content, high thermal expansion coefficient, can not be directly used for electrode preparation and carbon industry.
